Jhoanne Bautista, MD, PhD
Jhoanne (aka Joey) was born in the Philippines but grew up in New York. She did her undergrad work at Barnard College, went on to MIT to study inorganic chemistry, but eventually switched gears to pursue MD/PhD in immunology at WashU School of Medicine. She then moved to UCSF for residency in general surgery, with plans to pursue a clinical fellowship in abdominal transplantation.
As a graduate student, she worked in the laboratory of Chyi-Song Hsieh MD PhD where she studied the role of TCR signaling in the development of regulatory T cells. Her current research interest in the Anderson lab centers around the use of bioinformatics to characterize rare cell types (like extrathymic Aire-expressing cells or eTACs) and to map the development of various antigen-presenting cells that might be relevant to the induction of self-tolerance.
